Detailed description of Brookwood Golf Club | Brookwood Golf Course

Brookwood Golf Club is a Public, 18 hole golf course located just north of the Fort Wayne International Airport, Fort Wayne, Indiana,

Brookwood Golf Club first opened for play in 1925.

The course is wide open, so break out the driver.  The signature hole is #9, a 475-yard, par 4, requiring an exceptionally long tee shot, then a long approach shot to a small green.  A creek comes into play on six holes and the terrain consists primarily of rolling hills.

In 1992, the course hosted a tournament for the Hogan Tour.

Blue tees: par-72, 6,716 yards, 72.0 / 128
White tees: par-72, 6,362 yards, 70.3 / 122
Green tees: par-72, 5,659 yards, 67.1 / 115
Red tees: par-73, 5,364 yards, 70.0 / 121

It was going to be 30 degrees in Michigan and light snow, so we headed south 120 miles to 42 degrees, windy, cloudy and Golf. The views from the clubhouse on this 1925 designed course, lends itself to be a fairly straightaway, flat layout with scattered trees to breakup the view and wind. With five (5) tees you can choose from Blues at 6,736yds / 72.5 / 127 down to Silver at 4,552yds / 65.9 / 112 and with the soft fairways and 10-17mph winds I played the Whites at 3,280/3,282yds / 70.6 / 123 all day. The conditions were a little shaggy for the fairways but were full of good grass cover and no bald spots. Rough was long and sticky but cut very fair for winter conditions. Greens are rolling 8-9 and very smooth with pinch marks being attended to by Staff or players. (Kudos to management) Sand traps (firm) and grass bunkers are well placed guarding both fairways and greens respectfully. Starting out on #1 a straightaway 520yd Par 5 gets things warmed up in a hurry. Holes #3 & #4 are both rare 425yd each Par 4's but offer different challenges on each approach shot to the dance floor. The #6 a 189yd Par 3 with a tipped green that you want to play to the front, NOT 3 putt from above the cup. The #7 has a narrow fairway that stretches 565yd to a elevated green on this Par 5 Hcp 5 hole. The #8 Par 3 is 211yds to a LH/RH sand trap protected, elevated round green, all carry here. The #9 can be played either as a 475yd Par 5 or 411yd Par 4 and its tough either way. The Back 9 starts out with a 395yd Par 4 and follows up with #11 a 211yd Par 3 green that has long sand traps on both sides. The #12 dogleg right Par 4 plays a tough 412yds with six (6) scattered traps you'll encounter getting to the Hcp 2 elevated green. The last Par 3 at #14 can either be played 199 - 162yds to the small trap free, round green. The #16 Par 5 at 519yds has a creek carry on that 2nd shot with LH/RH sand traps guarding your landing area and a deep sand trap guarding the front of the green. The #18 is a "Feel Good" Par 5 at 475yds IF you stay out of the nine (9) sand traps placed during your final adventure home. I really enjoyed playing here today, despite the cold wind that always seem to be in my face. I ended up shooting 43/40 w/ 31 putts as judging the wind /elevation was a problem. I can only imagine summer playing conditions here, would be a lot more fun.

Brookwood moved many bunkers a few years ago in order to bring them back into play, which adds some difficulty. This course is always in very good condition and well worth the price. The layout has a good deal of variety as far as length of holes and the Par 3's are solid although a couple have been shortened for the white tees. If you like to cap off your round with a little food and drink while you replay your round, this course has a lot to offer...best food you'll find at a public course.
